‘Someone’ once said that your mother knows how much you love her, so you don’t have to tell her. Well, I’m here to tell you that that ‘someone’ obviously isn’t a mother!

There is a theory that suggests that in order to receive that which you desire, you must first give it unconditionally. Well, motherhood is all about giving. We give our time, our energy and occasionally our sanity to our children and often feel as though we receive nothing in return. But in truth, our children are giving back to us all the time, it’s just not necessarily in the form we are expecting, or most need!

Our children may not be capable of cooking us dinner or giving us a day off, but they can give us an extra big squeezy cuddle when we seem sad, paint us a picture or make us something unidentifiable ‘just for us’ out of the contents of our recycle bin. It’s merely the way we look at it that alters our enjoyment of the circumstance. What they are actually trying to tell us is that we are so important to them that we should receive one of their finest creations.

I am passionate about my role as a mother and feel that too often in our society Motherhood is undervalued, and not just by tired fathers or impatient employers, but often by mothers themselves. I think that it is important that we remind ourselves and all the mothers around us that we are in an important and ever-changing profession and that we are doing a fantastic job.

It is not always easy to hold in your hand the keys to the future!
